Houston....

I read this last week in an email from work:

If you’ve ever seen Apollo 13 you’ll remember that they did not say “Houston we have an opportunity.”

For some reason this quote struck me and rattled around in my brain over the past several days.

It's very easy in these times to see problems, difficulties, challenges and inconveniences, and yet, we are reminded periodically of paradoxically good things happening - families spending more time together, cleaner air, people connecting in new ways, new business ideas developing and students (some) thriving in a distance learning environment. Clearly, even in the midst of trying times, opportunities abound in unexpected places.

What unexpected opportunities might you be finding in this time of revised schedules, finances and family life? For me, new opportunity has come in small ways. Experimenting with new hummus recipes (OK, so mine have yet to achieve the goodness of the hummus the guys in our grocery store make, but they're not a bad runner up...), building on my jump rope skills as a good cardio option for my personal workouts, now that early morning runs are not allowed. And I've even began some new personal, spiritual practices like increased scripture memorization and delving into some new, interesting books and studies.

What about you? Where can you find opportunity in the midst of troubling times? How can we work to make the most of this time, trying as it may be, and not let it go to waste?
