What are you thankful for?

Being surrounded by Americans where I live and work, we are generally better at celebrating American Thanksgiving than Canadian. No matter when you celebrate, Thanksgiving always provides a great impetus to truly consider the many blessings in our lives. It is easy for us to focus on all the things that we wish were better, or that we find bothersome or downright disheartening and discouraging. If you are like me, when it comes to making a gratitude list (I try to practice this once a week - it helps me to focus on the good things in my life and also is a nice way to wrap up the week), it is easy to focus on exterior things - events in the week, accomplishments completed, someone special to us. I rarely consider looking at myself or my body when I think of things I am grateful for. What about you? When was the last time you expressed gratitude for your body? Even the parts that you may not find the most attractive. When you think about what your body has done for you, created with all its incredible functions - shouldn't it be one thing that you are really grateful for each and every day? Today, Thanksgiving season or not, take a moment to express gratitude for the gift of your body - the body that carries you through each day, allows you to experience life's pleasures and provides opportunity to do something meaningful. In the words of Doris Day, gratitude is riches, complaint is poverty. Now let's go get our grateful on!
