Often we know that our nutrition is not optimal and we wonder what is something simple we can do to upgrade it a bit. For the next few weeks I'm going to blog some simple tips for upgrading your eating habits!
Tip # 1 - get hydrated.
When we aren't drinking enough, our joints aren't able to absorb shock as well, which can lead to joint discomfort. Our blood is 90% water, so a lack of water results in a decrease in blood volume. This increases blood pressure and decreases the ability of your blood to deliver oxygen and nutrients (amongst other things like hormones) to your body.Your brain requires sufficient hydration to function effectively. Lack of water can result in altered thinking. Insufficient water in the body leads to a decrease in your body's ability to sweat and regulate temperature. Digestion depends on proper hydration and sufficient water in the body is needed in order to flush away wastes. A lack of water also leads to inefficient kidney function.For those interested in weight loss, increased water intake is also associated with decreased body mass.
It's pretty clear - water is essential to life and to our day-to-day well being. So, what is a simple way of upgrading your hydration? A great starting habit that almost everyone wold benefit from, is to drink 500 mls (or 2 cups) of water before every meal. Ready for the challenge?
