Journey or Destination?

Travel can be tiring. The whole point of travel is to get you somewhere new...somewhere you really want to be (hopefully), and the travel portion of the adventure often becomes something to be endured. There are those who love the hustle of airports and the excitement of packed trains, the unknown of airplane seat partners and meals, but for most, these aspects are considered mere necessary evils in order to reach our goal (our holiday adventure, time of relaxation, warm weather....) whatever it may be that awaits us on the other side of the discomfort.

For many people, health goals are like that destination. In their minds, the destination is the unending satisfaction they will certainly feel with the body shape achieved, the fitness goal accomplished or the race realized. Unfortunately, the journey to this destination is much more than a few hours of discomfort. To reach this destination, longer lasting discomfort is required. Life changing discomfort. The kind of discomfort that after a while becomes your new comfort, as it becomes your new normal, and no longer feels strange and uncomfortable. This is the best kind of journey of all - the process of seeing more than just changes in your body and capabilities, but changes in your mindset, perspective, lifestyle, even character, if you allow it. In the words of Marianne Kane: "The result never satisf-

ies as we hope. Yet the journey can often give us way more than we imagine." Embrace the discomfort, allow the process to bring about the changes you hope for, and enjoy the journey. Now for that next airplane trip.... :)
