What does protein actually do for you? During digestion, protein is broken down into its component parts - amino acids. There is a "pool" of amino acids in the blood which serves as a source to serve the body's needs. Once broken down, protein helps build and repair the body tissues (think muscle/bone - something which becomes very important to people lifting weights and hoping for muscle and strength gains!) Possibly even more significant is the fact that protein is used to produce enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters and antibodies. Protein can also assist with body composition changes in helping the body use fat as a fuel source more efficiently. Sounds like something worth investing some time and effort in? I'd say so! What protein are you going to be including in each of your meals today?
