For the love of figs

Every now and then a new food obsession takes hold. Since our visit to Ljubljana (Slovenia) this past August, I have been on a fig kick. I've had figs before, both fresh and dried, and always thought they were "all right" but I never really made a point of buying them. But something happened after adding figs into my morning breakfasts each day while on vacation and I haven't been able to stop eating them since! I always figure when my body craves something, there is a reason for it. So - what is it about figs?
First off, figs are technically inverted flowers rather than fruit, that grow in the Mediterranean region. They have plenty of fiber, are low in calories, and pack a good dose of calcium along with magnesium and potassium. They also are a source of vitamin K, B-complex vitamins and vitamin A. So many wonderful things!
What's your latest food obsession?!
As for me, I'm off to grab a fig or two.....
