I've been trying to test out different seeds and grains. This week it is buckwheat groats. High in iron, zinc and magnesium, groats are also a high source of amino acids. Buckwheat groats can lower cholesterol and are gluten free for those who need to consider that.
First lesson - they take only a couple of minutes to cook up, so don't leave them for long (I nearly roasted mine black in the pot -

YIKES!) Next time, I will boil the water (broth actually, I always cook my grains/seeds in broth which gives them a great flavour), then pour in the rinsed groats and turn the heat off completely.
Have you made groats before? How do you like to make yours?
