Win the battle with jet lag!

After nearly 15 years of living overseas, I feel like I have developed some decent jet lag fighting skills! The number one -MOST IMPORTANT THING you can do to win the war with jet lag, is to get on your schedule/routines as soon as possible.

1) Before unpacking all of our things, a grocery shop is in order. A small grocery shop means that breakfast the next morning will be our usual (oatmeal, bananas and coffee for us) and helps us prepare for our return to work and normalcy.

2) Despite getting to bed late, the alarm goes off at 4:30 am and I head out for my run. Going for my run helps my body shake off the sleepiness and reminds me that I have a full day ahead, so I'd better get on with it!

3) When the afternoon sleepiness hits there is NO napping! Napping mid afternoon will keep you from a good night sleep and allows your body to keep on the schedule of where you were instead of where you are. Nor mercy here - do what it takes to stay awake and plan to go to bed early instead of taking afternoon rest breaks.

Remember - the sooner you get your body on schedule, the quicker you will feel yourself again and the more productive you will be!
